Building a Practical Fit Score From Chat Signals

A fit score is only useful when the sales team understands what it means. Overbuilt scoring models often collapse because nobody trusts the logic. In conversational marketing, a small set of clear signals usually does the job: use case match, company profile, urgency, budget realism, and willingness to take the next step.

Separate fit from urgency

A buyer can be urgent but wrong for the offer. A buyer can also be a strong fit but not ready this week. Treat those as different signals. Fit should describe how well the person matches the offer. Urgency should describe how soon the conversation may need human attention.

Score what changes action

  1. Choose three to five variables that directly affect routing or CTA choice.
  2. Give more weight to signals that correlate with conversion, not curiosity.
  3. Keep the model readable so operations and sales can challenge it.

The goal is not mathematical elegance. The goal is better prioritization. If the score helps the team respond faster to the right leads and nurture the rest appropriately, it is doing its job.
